My green meals - Family review
With an online question list we asked our parents some things about ‘my green meals’. Some of the answers were surprising, but some of them were quite similar.
It was very clear that most of our parents do make green meals sometimes, some more often than others but in general everyone does it at least sometimes. When we asked them how often they make green meals, we got very varied answers. Some parents filled in 5 times a week, others said 3 times a week, but the answers not often at all and 2/3 times a month were filled in aswell. Then we noticed something really positive: All of us eat leftovers, which is great because less food will be thrown away. So for example you made dinner yesterday but you still have some leftovers, just save it for the next day instead of wasting so much food. We asked our parents if they think eating vegan is a good idea, all of them say it is, but they also admit that they don’t eat vegan themselves very often. And if they do, they add cheese for example so then it still isn’t completely vegan.
Our parents came up with some ideas to improve green meals in the Netherlands. Think about leftovers in supermarkets, too much packages in which the food is packed. But also ideas like eating less fish and meat, and use local products instead. Or more taxes on food that the population should eat less, and use this as a subsidy for green meals. Fewer mega stables was another great idea. And maybe it would be a wise thing to make television programs in which the use of leftovers is stimulated. If people are more aware of this, and if people get re-use-receipts for example, maybe they will try it more often.
So to conclude everyone agrees on having more green meals and everyone wants to do something for our environment. We think that this is a great thing!

Interwiew with the expert
Interview expert my green meal.
Name: Jorgo Lambrou
Profession: Anesthesist
From the start of the interview he made it quite clear that eating green and eating healthy were two different things. If you would only eat with the reasoning of being the least damaging to the environment as you can you would be vegan which is something advices against because it is hard and for a lot of people impossible to get all the nutrients and vitamins that you need from an only plants based diet.
That said he did also mention that cutting back on your meat intake overall does cause a healthier body, like lowering of the cholesterol level in your blood and lowering the chance of developing heart disease. He also noticed that patients who started eating greener said that they had less complains and more energy.
So in conclusion eating only green meals is not an good idea but eating more green meals than the average person does promote healthier eating habits.

How much do our meals contribute to global warning?
Meals contribute a lot to global warming, so it's better if you don't
throw way the leftovers or eat the left the next day!

Communication
How did we prepare the video conferences?
The week before the conference we prepared by doing the work our teacher said we had to do, we made up some questions for the Indian students. And tried to get to know their country, culture and school system better.
What did we learn from the video conferences?
We learned a lot from the video conferences, things about the Indian culture and traditions for example. The goal of the project became clearer as well.
What went well?
The connection and explanation went very well. We have learned a lot about the project and India only by calling via Teams and having contact via WhatsApp.
The internet connection did bring some trouble in that sometimes you could not understand each other that well when we were calling on teams.

Reflection
Comparison between us and the Indian students.
If you take a look at both projects, you can clearly see the difference in details. The Indian students went more in depth than us. for example, about the effects of vetegables on a human body, they wrote a lot about this. However we took a broader look at the effects that green meals have on the environment. So we both used a lot of details in our stories, just on different things. Overall the outcome of our projects are quite similar. Our groups both concluded that eating green meals is a beneficial change in diet and that it doesn’t only help your body to stay healthy, but also has a positive effect on the environment.

Conclusion EUmind
Looking back at the project with India, I guess we can conclude that EUmind was a very educational project. If we take a closer look to the results of the questions we asked in the interviews, it is quite clear that most of us are already trying to make green meals often. We see a good progress concerning throwing food away, in the interview we asked if adults eat left overs of the day before. Overall their answer was “yes of course!” which is great because years ago this wasn’t the case. Also, if we go back to the topic sustainability we can really say that that is a big concept of green meals. Making green meals is so much better for the environment! If we all try our best for our planet, starting with green meals, we think we can make a big difference. So we can conclude that we are on the right way to a better environment.
